There's something very charming about this one, very harmonious... the cours and the forms working together, it's quite structured... but was created without a pre-conceived idea...

Title of Show: Connections: Art Reaching Out From Around The World
Mail art was popularized in the '60s by Ray Johnson of the New York Correspondence School, and many contemporary artists use the art form to express themselves.
All postcard art created on an existing 4"x6" post card or a 5” X 9” post card.
Materials will vary, depending on the technique you choose. Artists create with any technique, and all media, including collage, markers, crayons, pen and ink, colored pencils, rubber stamps, tempera, acrylic, watercolor and printmaking.

MOMA acquires A Book About Death postcards
The recent show, A Book About Death, organized by Matthew Rose and exhibited at the Emily Harvey Foundation in NYC proved to be a great success! It was an open call for artists, and the image above is the front of the postcard that I sent in for the show.
It was really a tribute to Ray Johnson (his original Book About Death), and a “global exploration of death”. Each artist contributed 500 postcards to the show, which created an “unbound Book About Death”. Visitors to the gallery were then able to select some or all of each postcards to create their own book about death.
MOMA (Museum of Modern Art, New York) just acquired a complete set of postcards from the show! So, I can say that I’ve been “collected” by MOMA, and that makes life pretty good! I think the artists involved in the show are excited about this–because even though mail art operates mostly outside traditional establishments, isn’t it true that we all want our artwork to be seen, we all have a voice we want heard, and isn’t it nice to be recognized a little?

I find the small hairs of the plant roots reflecting the teabag strings very intriguing, one natural one man-made... and how the folds in the coffee filter simulate the veins in the leaves... there's a beautiful harmony here, even in it's diversity... and contradictions...
